CNN —Just four races into the Formula One season, Mercedes boss Toto Wolff believes the title is Max Verstappen’s to lose after another dominant win for the Red Bull driver. At the Japanese Grand Prix on Sunday, three-time world champion Verstappen finished 13 seconds ahead of teammate Sergio Pérez, who was eight seconds ahead of Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz in third. Last month, Sainz won the Australian Grand Prix when Verstappen was forced to retire from the race. This is what it is this year.”Toto Wolff was left lamenting Mercedes' slow start to the season after the Japanese Grand Prix. CNN —Carlos Sainz claimed an impressive victory at the Australian Grand Prix on Sunday, breaking Max Verstappen’s dominant grip over this F1 season as the Red Bull driver was forced to retire from the race. The Spaniard began the race second on the grid, behind pole-sitter Verstappen, and stuck close to the three-time world champion before easily overtaking him on the second lap to take the lead. For just the first time in two years, he retired from a Grand Prix, citing brake failure. Of course you always want to finish the races but it’s a mechanical sport,” Verstappen said following his first retirement since the 2022 Australian Grand Prix. Mechanics deal with the smoke coming out of Verstappen's car in the pit lane.

CNN —The Japanese Grand Prix on Sunday provided yet another opportunity for Red Bull and Max Verstappen to stamp their authority on this Formula One season. Verstappen streaked away from the field in Suzuka to claim his 13th win of the season while Red Bull won the constructors’ championships for the second year in a row. Such has been Red Bull’s dominance this year – the team has won every race except one – that it sealed the constructors’ title with six races still remaining. We’re having an incredible year.”Red Bull team principal Christian Horner and Max Verstappen celebrate on the podium. Despite Perez’s retirement, Verstappen’s victory was enough to secure his team the constructors’ championship.

CNN —For much of the 2022 Formula One season, Max Verstappen’s inevitable march to a second consecutive world championship felt more like a procession than a competition. “We note the findings by the FIA of ‘minor overspend breaches of the financial regulations’ with surprise and disappointment,” Red Bull said in a statement earlier this month. The FIA has yet to announce how Red Bull will be penalized for breaching the cost cap. “But Red Bull have not only made the best of the new regulations, but they seem to have a driver in Max that is driving at a level that I’ve not seen since Lewis Hamilton.
